Kinesys Features On Kylie

A 26 axis Kinesys automation system is being used on the current KylieX2008 world tour, and is an integral element of the lighting design created by Bryan Leitch and Nick Whitehouse of Visual Light.
It’s the first time that Whitehouse – who is also running lighting for the tour – has used Kinesys. He says, “We went for Kinesys for several reasons, specifically because we needed a motor down solution to gain extra height for the lower venues on the itinerary”. The system gave them the flexibility to do this and gain up to a metre of truss trim height.
The Kinesys system is driving two upstage 5 metre trusses; each containing 3 Vari*Lite V*L 3500 wash lights and 2 Atomic strobes. There are  two large X shaped trusses stage left and right above the band, loaded with spot and wash fixtures which also come in and out during the show. Then there are 4 upstage/downstage orientated ‘finger’ trusses which sit in between the video screen tracking system and are also on the Kinesys system, each loaded with 4 V*L 3000 Spots and 4 CK ColorBlast LED fixtures. Two smaller downstage X’s, – AKA the ‘Baby K’s – are also automated and move in and out.
The Kinesys’ Vector control is being operated by Craig “Millhouse” Lewis and the whole system has been supplied by Neg Earth lights, the principal lighting contractor for the tour.
