Kinesys System Installed at Göransson Arena
A complete Kinesys automation system and Vector control was supplied to the multi-purpose Göransson Arena in Sandviken, Sweden via our Swedish distributors Anderson & Co.
The 13,000 square meter capacity arena is home to over 50 shows and events each year, including ice racing sports, football, exhibitions and concerts, staging tours for high profile artists such as 50 Cent, Skunk Anansie, The Scorpions and many more.
With the growing demand to increase the venue’s capacity – in order to stage a diverse range of shows and events, the Arena’s management consultants Erik Westerlund and Kjell Apsman, partnered up with Norrkoping based Anderson & Co to provide a flexible rigging solution that would not only facilitate faster and easier changeovers between users, but also enable more innovative shows and events throughout the year.
Göransson’s CEO Fredrik Granting made the decision together with Helena Wallbom to invest in the Kinesys system to deliver the results. Anderson & Co.’s system design included 700 metres of Prolyte trussing, 72 x fixed speed 2 tonne double-braked CM Lodestar hoists with three Kinesys Elevation 24 channel positioning controllers, a 72-way Kinesys LibraCELL load cell infrastructure for monitoring plus a Kinesys Vector user-interface for overall control.
The project specification was met to the letter by providing chain hoists that can be fully loaded, making it one of the largest capacity weight-loading rated venue flying systems in Europe.
The Kinesys system also provided a simple to use mother grid over the stage area to configure the 29 meter long truss made from Prolyte S52sV and H30v products, each flown on four motors. This truss can be easily lowered and used for advertising banners and also makes rigging equipment below the deck straightforward for any visiting touring crew.
The PC-based Vector control system provided two viewing options of the Arena’s truss and motors; ‘grid’ mode used for concerts and ‘standard’ mode used for sporting and other events shown on the user friendly graphical interface. The custom touch screen version of the software made the selection and activation operation so simple to use.
The project was co-ordinated for Anderson & Co by Kim Ekblad, Product & Project Manager for their Mechanical Engineering Department. He undertook all the initial calculation and design work following the Swedish standard SS 767 15 01-2 Machinery Directive and oversaw the four week installation on site.
Kinesys’ MD Dave Weatherhead assisted in the final commissioning and initial system programming on site, and also conducted basic training with the Arena staff including main operator Patrik Höglenius. This was followed up by Anderson & Co.’s own Kinesys training in Swedish, subsequent to their completion of Kinesys’ comprehensive product awareness training in London.
The Arena team is absolutely delighted with the results.
Kim Ekblad comments, “It has already proved an elegant and cost-effective solution that greatly increases the Arena’s ability to stage a dynamic range of events that is quick and practical to activate … and efficient on human resources” .
